Kekava Municipality Culture Agency (Latvia) was founded in 29 October 2008
by Kekava Municipality Council with aim to unite all Kekava region culture
institutions (libraries, museums, tourist information centre, culture centres
etc.) and to introduce common system in order to create, preserve and
disseminate cultural values in whole municipality as well as develop tourism in
our region. Culture agency organizes culture activities in Kekava region and
supports activities initiated by all kind of local non-governmental, formal and
informal organizations devoted to culture, art, informal learning, leisure as well
as artistic initiatives by amateurs and professionals. Agency forms base for
professional and amateur dancing, singing, theatre groups in Kekava region.
Altogether there are 42 amateur culture groups in Kekava region. Beside
administrative aim Kekava municipality culture agency has several qualitative
objectives:
- to provide platform (resources& knowledge) for new initiatives made by local
community youth in the field of culture and rise participation and involvement
into municipality activities;
- to provide opportunities to spend leisure time meaningfully especially for
youngsters coming from disadvantaged families;
- provide vocational training for adults;
- provide professional guidance for youngsters.
Agency has experience as lead partner within Europe for Citizens and other
programmes as well as vast project management experience. Kekava
municipality have following twin towns – Bordesholm (Germany) and Gostyn
(Poland), Nilufer (Turkey), Braslav (Belarus), Pskov (Russia).
Project idea:
Kekava Municipality Culture Agency is looking for European partners interested
in participating in a project proposal “Discovering common cultural heritage in
the crossroads of Europe” DECULTEU within the Europe for Citizens Program
Action 1 – Active Citizens for Europe, Measure 1.1 – Town Twinning Citizens’
Meetings.
The aim of the project is to exchange experiences between project participants
(local community members), non-profit organizations coming from different
European countries interested in ancient history and culture research and its
role discovering common cultural heritage in Europe as well as develop
sustainable informal ties between citizens.
The project aims are:
1) experience cultural diversity and discover common
cultural heritage in Europe;
2) involve the local community in the planning and
implementation of the project;
3) raise public awareness and interest of local
inhabitants about domestic and overseas ancient history, cultures and
traditions thus promoting cultural and linguistic diversity;
4) participate in
common cultural performances (folk dance, folk music, craftsman
performances etc.) and seminar “Discovering common cultural heritage
through European ancient history, culture research”;
5) participate in Daugmale Castle Hill festival activities (concerts, open air craftsman fair), which
moto is “learning by doing” – participants will have an opportunity to
experience and reconstruct ancient, medieval age life styles, music, as well as
look on reconstruction of ancient castle hill siege from different European
countries.

It is expected that the project will involve municipalities from at least 4
participating countries.

Partners searched:
Kekava Municipality Culture Agency would welcome interest from
towns/municipalities or their twinning committees or other non-profit
organisations (associations, ancient/medieval age clubs etc.) representing
local authorities interested in folk dance, music, research of ancient,
medieval ages history, culture, life styles etc.
Financial aspects:
Project will cover 70- 80% of transportation costs (depends on total participant number,
most economical and available means of transport have to be
considered from point A to B) and 100% accommodation and meals.
Project period and venue:
The project activities will take place from June 14th – 17th 2012 in
Kekava municipality – Kekava, Daugmale (Latvia).
Number of participants:
The number of participants that is expected to be sent by each partner organization
is 10-30 persons, gender equality have to be observed.
