Public Policy Centre (CENPO), established in 2003, is dedicated to undertake activities that contribute to inclusive and transparent public policy development at the local level. We are engaged in several national and international projects aiming to increase the quality of citizen’s participation through promoting and implementing innovative practices for local policy-making in communities in Romania.
We are currently undertaking an international project with the scope of developing a comprehensive assessment and action framework on the implications for civil society engagement in development planning through the adoption of subjective well-being indicators relevant for their communities. This project is financed by the European Commission Educational Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency „Europe for Citizens” Programme, Action 2, Measure 3. In another European project, currently under implementation by our partner organization Open Society Institute –Budapest, we are engaged in activities focusing on developing civic competencies and enhancing the dialogue between citizens and institutions of the EU in order to assess the impact of EU level policies on local communities.
Seeking to improve the impact of the projects mentioned above we are developing at the moment a new project focusing on the development and implementation of innovative tools for citizens’ engagement in local development planning for the planning cycle of 2013-2020. The project is based on the call for proposal 2011 EACEA/01/02. Our goal is to help local CSOs to influence local decision-making and articulate their visions and opinions in the form of recommendations for policy makers at the local level.
We are planning to involve overseas organizations to develop and implement tailor-made solution for enhancing participation of local CSOs in elaborating local development strategies and exchange best practice examples of community empowerment.
The activities of the project will consist of:
- Organization of round-table discussions and debates on the local level addressing the issues of civic participation and formulation of common vision for local development
- Organization of workshops in applied spatial/local development planning for local CSOs in each of the participating communities
- Organization of international events with the scope of disseminating best-practice models for community empowerment and active citizenship
- Further developing of an existing website , where all relevant information and policy documentation can be collected and best-practice examples of active citizenship can be published (this web-portal can be used afterwards as an e-tools for public consultation during the process of developing local development strategies)
We are eager to use this opportunity to develop sustainable partnerships and networking activities with other CSOs promoting active citizenship. The partner organization will be invited in Romania for a preparatory meeting to discuss concrete aspects of the cooperation and implementation and will also be actively involved in the further activities of the project and dissemination of the project outputs.
