Latvian municipality Strenči is looking for partners in Europe for Citizens Programme, action 1, measure 1.1 (Town Twinning citizens meetings).

STRENČI MUNICIPALITY – MAIN CHARASTERISTICS
Strenči Municipality was formed on 1st of July 2009, it
merges four territories – two towns Strenči and Seda and two
parishes Jērcēni and Plāņi. Municipality of Strenči has a
population of 4.000 people.
Strenči town is an administrative centre of the
municipality by river Gauja. It`s historical origin is involving
Timber Rafting traditions which are proudly revived in
nowadays. For the last 15 years on the third Saturday of May
the annual Gauja Raftsmen Festival is held and since 2011
Strenči Town has official status of International Timber
Rafting City together with other European cities. Preserving
the skills of rafter profession is one of the reasons why every
year a tradition school is opened for young people who wants
to obtain the skills on how a log raft is being made and lead
down the river.
To relive or catch a feeling of Soviet times a great
experiece can be gained while visiting Seda town, its central
square with radiate street plan and premises with Stalin`s
yellow clasicism architecture. Nature reserve Seda`s Bog is
crossed by the longest narrow-gauge railway in Latvia and it
is one of the biggest bogs in our country which is an
excellent bird conservation area (more than 100 species are
nesting in the area).
Second largest oak is situated in Jērcēni parish. Kaņepju
oak is more than 800 years old. It`s perimeter is 9,4 m. A
cultural heritage is Jērcēnmuiža manor – complex of 19th
century neoclassicism with interesting historical stories.
One of the novelity in municipality is meeting house in Jaunklidzis
village (Plāņi parish) which was opened in 2010 and
architectonicaly is build like 18th century latvian folk building.
In Strenci municipality active people are honoured, who preserve heritage,
maintain old and cultivate new traditions. Folk-dancing group, choir, poetic
theatre are takeing an active participation in cultural life. Different NGO`s,
associations are operating in the municiaplity.
The festival of Strenči municiaplity is held on the first saturday in August
when all people come together and celebrate,
enjoying culture programme and other interesting activities.
