"Our organization will submit a project this year related to children’s rights and protection against violence within the Daphne III programme and we are looking for project partners. In case of positive answer, please send us a description of your organization as well as information on the experience in Daphne or other European projects. We would be grateful if you could send us an answer until next Monday, 29th March 2010 in order to be able to define the partnership as soon as possible. We will then proceed to developing the budget of the project."
Project name: NO to violence, YES to positive raising of children
Corporal punishment of children is a violation of children’s rights of physical integrity, human dignity and equal protection under the law.
The physical and psychological harm caused by violence impacts on the future development of children as confident and independent individuals.
The project aims at raising awareness on the negative effects of corporal and verbal punishment of children, as well as at promoting positive parenting and non-violent raising of children in all environments (home, school or any other institutional or non-institutional setting).
Specific objectives:
- research on the national programmes and legislations existing against corporal punishment of children in the European countries, as well as research on children’s experiences of violence in their homes, schools and other settings, in order to have an updated picture of the European situation;
- build on the good practices of positive parenting existing at European level in order to create a new model of parenting education that promotes positive and non-violent child raising based on stress and anger management and recognition and empowerment of children’s attitudes, achievements and abilities;
- develop educational and informational materials both for children and parents, teachers and other carers on children’s rights, negative effects of violence and existing support available for guidance and protection of abused children.
Workstreams:
WP1 – Project management
WP2 – Research and analysis of current context in Europe
WP3 – Development of the new model of positive parenting education
WP4 – Implementation of the new model of positive parenting education
WP5 – Dissemination, awareness raising and exploitation of results
WP5 – Evaluation and quality assurance
Results:
- analysis of current context in Europe;
- collection of good practices;
- new educational model of positive parenting;
- implementation of the new model in 5 European countries (workshops),
- evaluation report of the implementation of the new model;
- 10 national awareness raising seminars (2 in each country);
- 5 national awareness raising conferences (1 in each country);
- 1 international dissemination conference (RO);
- 1 booklet with recommendations for policy makers based on the results of the context analysis;
- 1 booklet for children on the children’s rights and existing support available for guidance and protection of abused children (in all languages);
- 1 booklet for parents (mothers) on children’s rights, negative effects of violence and existing support available for guidance and protection of abused children (in all languages);
- project website;
- communication platform (blog);
- dissemination materials (flyer, brochure, poster).
