Action 1 Mesure 2.2 – Deadline June 1st 2013
As we hear that the European Union is unpopular and mistrusted, the Community project has to be
undertaken, more than ever, by its citizens. Sadly, the latest Eurobarometer showed that people
don't feel informed enough about Europe.
We, young civic journalists, want to make our contribution to the construction of a European
identity, by creating an innovative media platform about Europe.
#european media hub
Our idea is to develop a next-generation European hub, based on the production and exchange of
contents between European associative radios and web radios. On a new specific website, the
platform will bring together their journalistic productions with a European sight.
Both platform and network will be active on social networks seing that the latter constitute effective
channels for the conveying of information. The platform will be open to comments in order to create
a discussion area for European citizens.
It would be a playful window on Europe with sounds and videos. In one click, the audience could get
a pertinent information, off the beaten track.
Concerning partners, they will also be able to exchange and broadcast contents on their regular
frequencies in order to increase the audience.
The project will start on January, 1st 2014 and last 12 months. Of course, we hope that the platform
will live on afterwards.
#feeling European
Clear, federative and multicultural information about Europe is key to feeling European. The
objectives will be:
- to provide to any European citizen with the information they need and deserve
- to arouse a sense of belonging to the EU, helping the audience seize their neighbors’ references and
the inner workings of EU institutions.
For the European media partners, such a commitment to a common project will also have a bonding
effect. Through trans-European topics, such as the environment, migrations, politics, ethnic
minorities, European heritage, citizen initiatives, and so on and so forth, we can learn from each
other’s effective practices.
#civic journalism
As volunteer radio hosts at Aligre FM (radio broadcast “L'Europe buissonnière”), we want to bring
focus to European issues and participate to the development of a common identity.
Aligre FM is a historical member of the French independent radio stations. Based in Paris, it
broadcasts worldwide thanks to its brand new website.
Our editorial line is made of intercultural dialogue and open-minded programs. No discrimination,
no propaganda allowed. Only non-profit and slow information about the daily European life.
Here are some suggestions of reports which could feed into the platform: in Tarente (South of Italy),
the European most polluted city, or the story of Luis Alvarez, a Spanish businessman who left town to
create a community sharing an alternative way of life in the countryside (Villanueva de la Vera), or
the consternation of Hungarian artists after the nomination of controversial personalities at the head
of the main cultural institutions (Budapest).
Last year, our work on Europe was nominated for both French-German prize for journalism and
Louise Weiss prize for European journalism.
For the project Reportin'Europe:
- we would create, run, feed and promote the project
- we would run content translations
- we would also produce contents ourselves
#partners wanted
We are looking for associative, non-profit radios and web radios located in any of the EU member
states as well as in any of the official candidate countries (Croatia, Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro,
Serbia, Turkey). We wish to link founder members and newly entering countries.
We expect from our partners that :
- they provide journalistic content (basically audio reports and interviews ; photo and video reports
will also be welcome on the website) on a European level
- they help promote the platform in their countries
- they help us with the translation of their reports
